Did an Amazon Truck Hit Your Car?

Posted on December 23, 2023 in Truck Accident

CO injury lawyerEach year, Amazon drivers traveled approximately 5.2 million miles delivering packages to customers across the country. People order from Amazon on a regular basis, with an estimated 3.5 million packages being delivered daily.

With the holidays upon us, you will likely see Amazon trucks delivering at all hours of the day and into the evening. Having to keep to such stringent schedules, it is feasible that an Amazon driver could hit your vehicle while rushing to get to another location.

If you have been hit by an Amazon driver, you may be able to recover compensation for the delivery driver’s negligence. Our Fort Collins truck accident lawyer would like to discuss navigating the insurance process with Amazon.

Insurance Claims

If you are in an accident with an Amazon driver, you may be able to submit a claim directly to Amazon. If anyone was injured, then you will want to request that medical personnel be dispatched.

Even if nobody was hurt, you still want to call 911 so that the police arrive on the scene and take an official police report. A police report will help to corroborate your story and can be used to support your claim.

You will also want to exchange information with the Amazon truck driver. It is important to jot down the driver’s name, phone number, e-mail, license plate number, and insurance information.

The majority of Amazon truck drivers are employed by individual Delivery Service Partners (DSPs). So, if you get into an accident with an Amazon delivery driver who is contracted through another carrier, Amazon will most likely request that you file your insurance claim through that carrier.

If you are unsure who to file a claim with, a Larimer County truck accident attorney will help you in navigating the process.

Amazon Flex and Insurance Coverage

Amazon Flex is a program that allows people to pick up supplemental income by delivering for Amazon. Amazon Flex drivers use their own vehicles to make deliveries.

Amazon does provide Flex drivers $1 million in insurance coverage, as long as drivers maintain proof of having their own personal automobile insurance. Amazon Flex insurance includes uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage and comprehensive and collision coverage.

Since the Amazon Commercial Auto Insurance Policy is a supplemental insurance, it is first available to Amazon Prime trucks and delivery vans. So, the insurance may not be available to every Amazon Flex driver who is in an accident. This means that you may need to file an accident through the Flex driver’s personal car insurance policy. If the policy limits do not cover your injuries, then it may be in your best interest to file a lawsuit against the driver.
